Series of Psychology Batch 2 (Part 1): Self-Acceptance, Maintaining Motivation
VDMI held the second batch of the Series of Psychology with Dr. Fitri Ariyanti Abidin, Faculty of Psychology from Padjadjaran University. Part 1 was held on July 8th, 2021, at 14:00 to 16:00. In the first part of the series, the students were guided to know themselves, their strengths and weaknesses. Also, their current states of motivation were discussed. In the beginning, the students were asked to scale (from 1 to 10) the state of their motivation on things that they must do. For instance, a student scored her motivation in finishing her final research project with 6.
Ibu Fitri explained that motivation could be strong, medium, or weak. Also, motivation can be strengthened or weakened. One of the methods in increasing motivation is journaling, either reflective journaling, organization journaling, or creative journaling. Besides, to increase motivation, someone needs to understand him/herself. Johari Window is one of the tools that can help people understand themselves. The participants were asked to write their open self, hidden self, blind self, and unknown self as their assignment.
Syahril Soulisa, one of the grantees from Pattimura University, Ambon, asked about how to strengthen his motivation when he is feeling down. Ibu Fitri suggests, Syahril needs to know several things/activities that can increase his spirit as strategies to self-motivate. Jot down the strategies on a paper and then refer back to it whenever he feels unmotivated. After knowing themselves, people will understand how to motivate themselves.
