Series of Psychology Batch 2 (Part 2): Managing Priority
July 15th, 2021, the second part of the Series of Psychology discussed how to manage priority. Indeed, VDMI alumni and grantees must have lots of things to do. Yet, we need to know which one should be done first. The time management quadrant may help clarify things that ‘urgent and important’, ‘not urgent and important’, ‘urgent and not important’, or ‘not urgent and not important’.
To decide which one is the most important, someone needs to decide his/her ‘light house’. A lighthouse means the most important thing for them. A lighthouse can be family, study, parents, etc. By deciding lighthouse, it will be easier to decide our priorities. The rule of thumb is anything against our lighthouse should not be our priority.
Rumi Sarah, a grantee from Tanjungpura University, questioned the effectiveness of the quadrant. She thinks that writing which one is urgent and which one not is similar to writing a resolution at the end of the year. People can write it but never really act on it. Ibu Fitri explained that the quadrant will quickly remind us of our priorities. It helps when we need to make a quick decision about several things to do. Also, the quadrant can help us to avoid making a wrong decision that can make us lose what matters the most in our life.
