Citizenship Workshop Jatinangor 2018
Eighteen participants from various regions (Medan, Padang, Jakarta, Bogor, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Malang, Surabaya, Pontianak, Gorontalo, Makassar and Kupang) has met on the Bumi Perkemahan Kiara Payung Jatinangor, Sumedang, West Java to attend Citizenship Workshop 2018. These five days (19-23 September 2018) workshop has been through by doing various activities and material sessions.
The first day was opened by Mrs. Parche by describing the VDMI’s profile, and continued with the first material of “How to be an influencer” by Mr. Ferdinandus Hindiarto. The material was opened by singing “Tanah Airku” and a discussion about what participants had done for Indonesia. Mr. Ferdinand also presented the material of “Indonesia Is You” and discussed about the moral air quality around the participants’ environments. The next day, the participants grouped into three group to present about what was the problem being faced around and its solution. In the last session – Communication Skill – became a highly anticipated topic by participants. “We really need communication skills because many of us will go into the world of work or the community experience, and if we can not do good communication, then we will face many difficulties in doing our jobs,” said one of participants.
The participants were also given stimulus of doing good cooperation and became influencers by taking part in outbound activities. For almost four hours, participants carried out various activities that honed their concentration, teamwork, how to be leaders and followers, respect with other and how to be influencers.
On 21st September 2018, the activity continued with the material of “How you contribute yourself to society” by Dr. Jenny Suminar. The dreams and aspirations of the participants for the next five years are written. Participants were also given an overview of Indonesia with its abundant of natural resources and human resources. Then, the participants were divided into four groups and conducted a Local Community Short Visit around the Bumi Perkemahan Kiara Payung. Participants were asked to do some interviews with local people about the obstacles faced, how they think about the current government, and one of the groups must get money without begging and singing. The session closed with Mrs. Jenny’s message “I entrust Indonesia to your hands, the successor of the this nation in the future”.
On the next day, the participants were also invited to do a Local Exposure regarding the potential in the village of Sindangsari, Sumedang, West Java. They were devided into four groups. Each groups had the task of knowing the potential and finding problems as well as the solutions. One group has visited Fish Cultivation. The others have visited Farmers Group (Koperwat), The Home Industry Group and the Coffee Farming Group. The group discussed with each community group and carried out activities such as going to coffee plantations, developing businesses from fish farming, making snacks and visiting community rice fields.
In the last session, Mrs. Dwiani Fegda as the last facilitator, gave to the participants a challenge of creating “yel-yel” which containing prides of Indonesia. After that, the session continued with the material of “Influencer Skill” and “To Lead, To Serve” which participants were given an overview to become an Influencer. In addition, participants were also given the opportunity to express what will they do as active citizens. The activity ended with the selection of the Best Participant Citizenship Workshop. Suhandi from the University of Hasanuddin Makassar was given a reward as The Best Participant based on the choice of participants. “I thank to all of my friends who have entrusted the “Best Participant” to me. I did not expect to be given this mandate. We have to keep doing the best and becoming the people who are useful for the surrounding, “he said.
