Series of Communication Skill (Part 1): Prepare Yourself

September 24, 2021, VDMI held Series of Communication with Ibu Yesi Puspita, S.Sos, M.Si (Lecturer of Communication at Andalas University). Ibu Yesi highlighted that before learning public speaking; we should understand the basic concept of communication. There are several functions of communication: to inform, to educate, to persuade, and to entertain. Also, there are two types of communication, which are verbal and nonverbal.

Other important elements of communication are languages, words, appearance & visual, as well as body language & vocal (paralanguage). Nowadays, there are many professions that need public speaking skills such as speakers, announcer, presenter, influencer, moderator, master of ceremony, reporter, comedian, etc. During the session, the participants were divided into breakout rooms to discuss skills needed/what are need to be prepared to perform as speakers, announcers, presenters and so on. The participants were asked to make a script of public speaking to be performed in the next session.
