Day 1, all participants are expected to know their personality, identify their passion, have big dreams and are responsible for building local communities in the future. Anggoro Mukti divided the participants into two groups based on the job they dream of in the future: as workers or entrepreneurs. Both teams need soft skills that need to be developed. Anggoro presents it in a simulation game so that participants can focus on achieving goals, have a strategy and don’t feel satisfied quickly. In addition, participants were also given an understanding of the type of individual in dealing with problems (a quitter, a camper, and a climber). At the end of the session, participants identified themselves with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). They can develop a good personality and try to minimize the things that are not good. In addition, Anggoro emphasizes the importance of doing things right and repeating them. By repeating it, a habit will be built that encourages participants to be able to do it.
On this occasion, Prof. Ir. Irfan Dwidya Prijambada, M.Eng., Ph.D. (Chairperson of the Advisory Members – YVDMI) shared about his struggles to become a professor in agriculture at Gadjah Mada University (UGM). As VDMI grantees, Prof. Irfan hopes that participants can graduate on time and to keep fighting to face all the challenges in study while keeping in mind their goals in college and still holding on to their dreams as high as possible. No effort will betray the results.
Day 2, Ronny H Mustamu shared about “Basic Leadership”. Effective leadership includes a combination of three components: 1) strengths of self-mastery, 2) strengths of self-relationship and 3) strengths of action. But, as a leader, you can sometimes fail. Several participants gave their opinion, among others, Tiara Nurbayiti said a leader who makes too many promises and not respecting other people’s ideas can fail easily. Similarly, Ismail Pakaya shared that the leaders who are not being complete in doing something and not protecting their members also can fail easily.
Developing trust is the foundation of leadership. By developing competence, connection and character, we will gain trust from others around us. To expand influence as a leader, it is necessary to understand the difference between power and authority. In difficult times, a leader should create salvage and significant difference, have a forethought, can be trusted and confident, have an extra-personal performance, create a sense of urgency and install governance systems with transparency and responsibility reports. At the end of the session, Ronny showed the type of leaders around the world and asked the participants to reflect their leadership styles.
Day 3, Yesi Puspita shared “Basic Communication Skills”. Effective communication process consists of 7 elements: 1). communicators, 2). communicants, 3). messages, 4). media, 5). situations, 6). goals and 7). feedback. The foundation of relationships with other people is trust. The higher level of relationship with other people, the higher level of trust is. There are three roleplays to note that communication is important. Participants are divided into groups and start playing “Siapa Dia“, “Sambung Kata” and “Pesan Berantai“. The output of this roleplay is to be a good communicator, good listener and feedback is needed to make sure the message conveyed is correct.
