The beginning session, started by communication elements form a comprehensive view of communication, touching on the methods verbal and non-verbal. These include spoken and written words as well as body language, facial expressions, gestures, and tone of voice. The process of communication started by yourself, sighting is one of communication (to justify). The ideal communication is a face to face zone, that couldn’t lead you to a miss communication. The principles guide (ethics, aesthetics, logic) consist of integrity and rationality of communication process. The etiquette of talking to other people must show respect, empathy, using a polite language, open and honesty without any tendency. The main etiquette of listening to other people is the principle of reciprocal communication, knowing when to stop talking, knowing when to be a listener, and acting as a recipient of the message. Two way communication, in practice we no longer differentiate between messages and feedback and People who communicate are considered equal. Andri S Munthe (grantee Pattimura University), shared his experience of communication process regarding how to communicate effectively so in the future, he can adapt according to his circle.

Material of Series of Communication

In the 2nd week, participants had a chance to share their personal communication experiences. Awi Erwin (UNIMED) had a problem when one of his friends asked to pay the futsal money first, but this became a bad habit that was detrimental to one side. Rahmah Jumiati (Non partner – Riau university) had a personal trauma beginning with the group work and he presented the task, but unfortunately the audience didn’t pay attention to her group distracted with their cellphones. Dita Muhada (UNTAN) experienced her daddy issues, she had a good intention to warn his father to stop smoking but ended with a silent treatment. Sometimes at some point, we don’t know that we have been hurting other people by verbal or non-verbal communication. When other people judge you, use that judgment as an encouragement to upgrade and self-improvement. Yesi highlighted in the psychology communication “if I speak, then I exist.” Communication started by ourselves and knowing yourself. Personality plays a role in regulating the way a person behaves, it determines the qualities of a human being. Hipocrates and Galenus theory there are four personality types: 1) Choleric – typically ambitious and determined. 2) Sanguine – typically sociable and optimistic. 3) Phlegmatic – typically calm and thoughtful. 4) Melancholic – typically detail-oriented and introspective.

To be an effective communicator we must more proactively do the two-way communication, show the effective gesture, eye focus on our interlocutors, think before deliver the message then speaking clearly, be thoughtful, know your audience, and be able to simplify the messages. The communication effective points were consist of 1) Communicator 2) Message 3) Communicant 4) Media 5) Feedback 6) Situation 7) Goal. How culture influences the way of communication, based on emotions, namely the role of emotions in communication, both as sender and receiver. Meanwhile, perception is how we see and understand the messages we receive. Understanding culture is very important in communicating, in order to adapt more quickly and reduce misunderstandings.

Andri (grantee Pattimura University) said that communication is not easy because everyone is different.
